Transcribe tips

These are some notes to help anyone who might be using Transcribe by eeharbor.

I am using Structure, I don't know if this is significant but I'm noting it down here as it might help someone else.

Transcribe: linking to other languages

I found a bug in Transcribe where there are more than two languages.

It goes like this:
You create the translated pages independently and then try to link the translated to an existing entry.

1.    I edit the English version of the page and click on the Transcribe Tab
2.    I choose "Relate this to an existing entry"
3.    I choose the French version of the page
4.    I can now see that the Associated entries are:

English
French 
German (does not exist)
Spanish (does not exist)

5.    I repeat action 2 and then I choose the German version of the page.
6.    I can now see that the Associated entries are:

English 
French (does not exist)
German 
Spanish (does not exist)

7.    I repeat action 2 and then I choose the Spanish version of the page.
8.    I can now see that the Associated entries are:

English 
French (does not exist)
German (does not exist)
Spanish 

Not funny eh?

Solution

I didn't have time to mess about with changing relationships in the database and I needed the non-technical person who created the pages to create the relationships.

1.    Go to the French version of the page
2.    I choose "Relate this to an existing entry"
3.    I choose the English version of the page

4.    Go to the German version of the page
5.    I choose "Relate this to an existing entry"
6.    I choose the English version of the page

Transcribe: Unlinking a page

I found that there was one page which was incorrectly linked.  I needed to remove the link and link that page to the correct page.  I couldn't see any way of doing this from the transcribe Control panel pages.  

Let's say that these are the pages in question
English Page = "Rubber Extrusions"
Correct French Page = Extrusions en caoutchouc
Incorrect French Page = Moulage en Caoutchouc

1.    I select the English version of the page
2.    In the transcribe tab I try to "relate this entry to an existing entry" and choose the correct French version of the page
3.    I get "Transcribe: An entry already exists for the language you have chosen to relate this entry to."

Solution

1.    Go to the Correct French Page
2.    Relate this page to the Correct English Page

To quote Laura Tenison "If you can't get in the front door then go round the back"

Sometimes the "Relate this to an existing entry" drop down is missing
Submit the page and try again.

Language_links only displays the default language

If you only have variables set in one language then transcribe (version 1.6.1 at time of testing) will not show any other languages.

Just add a translation of a variable in each language and all will be happy.
